McClatchy had 6 juniors on their squad that finished 3rd in last year's Sac Joaquin finals, making them one of the most senior-laden teams in California for this upcoming season. They also fell just short of getting to the state meet, but the Lions have strong returning 5K rankings (admittedly a little inflated from racing on a quick Granite Park). Furthermore, it seems to me that the door is open for them to advance from this year's Sac Joaquin section. With solid improvement over the summer, this team has top-10 potential in Division 1. #1 runner Jonah Wiener-Brodkey improved in the 3200 this spring, and although the team track results weren't spectacular, their returning top 5 did train and race together all year. Depth is a concern, though - McClatchy needs to add 2-3 more solid runners to that strong returning top 5 top solidify the team's prospects this season.
