2017 Boys Pre-Season Top 10 California XC Runners

#9 Carlos Carvajal, Great Oak (SS)

When you look at the top 10 boys, there are certainly many connections as many of the athletes have raced each other numerous times. Finishing in 2nd place behind Robert Miranda at the California Winter Championships 3000m. was Great Oak junior, Carlos Carvajal (photo above courtesy of Carlos Carvajal). The Great Oak boys won their 5th straight Division I XC championship last fall with Carvajal as their 3rd man with a time of 15:36.5 (15th place) on the Woodward Park course. To be fair, fellow junior Jacob Korgan was GO's 2nd man at 15:30.0 but Carvajal had the more impressive Track and Field season which places him in this position on this list. He recorded a personal best 1600m at the CIF DivIsion I finals with a time of 4:16.27. He qualified for the CA state meet in the 3200m with a time of 9:08.54 and 5th place finish. At the state meet, Carvajal finished in 8th place with a time of 9:10.89 as the 3rd underclassman in the race.
