Grand Valley State men's track and field team competed at three track and field meets this weekend (April 14-16). The Lakers raced in day two of the Mt. SAC Relays and had four student-athletes hit NCAA Division II provisional marks. GVSU will compete next Saturday (April 23) at the Ernie Mousseau Classic in Grand Rapids, Mich., and the Pacesetter Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
The #2 Grand Valley State women's track and field team competed at three track and field meets this weekend (April 14-16). The Lakers raced in the second day of the Mt. SAC Relays and qualified three student-athlete for the 2011 Outdoor Championships in the 5,000-meter run. Air Force senior Katherine Ward and sophomore Jeremy Drenckhahn shined during the late events of the 53rd Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, April 15, in Walnut, Calif. Competing in their respective 5000-meter races at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, Ward clocked the second-fastest women's time in Academy history, while Drenckhahn moved into fourth on the men's all-time list.
April 16, 2011 - Successful efforts in the distance races highlighted day one of a full weekend of action for the Nittany Lion track and field squads, Friday at the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University, and the Mt. SAC Relays, at Mount San Antonio College. Among the performances was a second-place effort from freshman Bekka Simko (Mentor, Ohio) in the women's 1500-meters at Auburn, as well as an outstanding finish from junior Caitlin Lane (Greenwich, N.Y.) in the same event on the West Coast. Senior Karlee McQuillen (Johnstown, Pa.) and freshman Laura Loht (McClure, Pa.) fared well in the field events, placing first and third, respectively, in the women's javelin throw at Auburn.
In her first race of the outdoor season senior Sheila Reid (Newmarket, Ont.) shattered her own personal best in the 1500 meters and established a new leading time in the nation with a mark of 4:11.85 at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Reid was part of a group of Villanova student-athletes competing on Friday during part of this weekend's three-day meet.
Senior Carl Mackenzie (Lower Hutt, New Zealand) and junior Mathew Mildenhall (Auckland, New Zealand) both represented Villanova on Friday in the Mt. SAC Relays held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Mackenzie ran in the 1500 meters while Mildenhall competed in the 5000 meters. Both individuals ran in the Olympic Development Elite sections of their respective events.

Western Washington University's Sarah Porter broke her own school record set last season by nearly 27 seconds as she placed fourth in the women's 5,000 meters with a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 15:57.02 on Friday night at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays being held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Porter's time is the second-best nationally this season. She placed third at nationals in 2010 and seventh in 2009.
Highlighted by a third-place finish from the 4x400-meter relay team, the Air Force track and field team recorded multiple top-25 finishes during the first full day of collegiate competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, April 15, in Walnut, Calif. A pair of Miami University distance runners put in strong efforts at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, Friday while two RedHawks also competed on the first day of the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by the University of Cincinnati.

Ciara Short set a school record in the 100 meters and four other Titans posted seasonal and/or personal bests Friday at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, which feature about 5,000 competitors when all divisions are included.
