This week's featured rankings article focuses on year-over-year progression for 1600 meters. This article focuses on girls. The foundation of this article is the same as the boys article that posted the day before, however, we've made a couple of changes to this article.
The basics ...
We examine the senior class in two charts:
- 1) Season bests through all four years to date
- 2) freshman-to-senior improvement, comparing the difference between those two seasons.
For the junior class, we look a season bests through all three seasons to date. For sophomores, we chart SBs over their first two seasons and provide a year-over-year difference. And, for the freshman class, we provide the ranking by class (we used a different program to provide a more in depth ranking list than we did in the initial posts of the boys article).
All times are based on yearly season bests currently in the MileSplit database. Mile times not already converted to 1600m in the athlete's profile are not considered.
The rankings for the senior and junior class are based on the top 250 times in 2019. Anyone not among the top 250 did not make the list, regardless of time in previous years.
Rankings of current sophomore girls are based on the top 500 season bests in 2018. (This is different from the boys list.) Athletes with year-over-year improvements better than what is on the list who did not run a top-500 time as a freshman, did not make the list. Additionally, sophomore athletes without times in both seasons, were removed from the list. While the ranking list is based on 2018 times, the ranking is sorted in order of best YOY improvement.
