Allen and Westbrook Among Top Seeded Contenders at the Arizona Sprints Showcase

 

Devon Allen and Ky Westbrook are among the top seeded contenders at the Arizona Sprints Showcase this weekend hosted by the Phoenix Sports Commission. 

The action starts tonight at 6:30 at Chandler High School with top athletes from New Mexico, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri.  15-20 college recruiters have also been invited to the event.  Come out and support these wonderful athletes!!!

Here is a snapshot of the events.

Hurdles

In the boys 110 and 300 hurdles, Brophy Prep junior and 2 time state champion,  Devon Allen is the favorite.  Allen holds the state record in both events and is ranked US#5 in each.  He comes into the 110 hurdle event with a 13.52 and the closest competitor is Keithyon Moten from Indio, CA with a 14.17.

In the 300 hurdle event Allen's seed time of 36.39 gives him an edge over #2 seed Zach Lewis (37.28) from Ramona, CA.   Keithyon Moten (38.04) and Brophy teammate Robert Grant (38.13) are also in the mix.


Olivia Haggerty from Richardson, TX is the one to beat in the girls 100 hurdles with a seed time of 14.02.  Both Syrea Hicks (Bakersfield, CA) and Sherelle Jordan (Chandler, AZ) have a seed time of 14.16.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill from Bakersfield, CA has the fastest seed time in the 300 hurdles with a 43.00 followed by Olivia Haggerty with 43.31.  Makaila Flannigan (Chandler, Az) has a 3rd place seed time of 43.44.



Sprints

100 Dash

In the boys 100 meter dash Texas State Champion, Tremayne Acy from Desoto Texas is the favorite with a seed time of 10.35.  Khalfani Muhammad (Notre Dame HS, Sherman Oaks CA) is seeded 2nd with 10.44 and Devon Allen is 3rd in 10.49.  Acy and Muhammad both ran in the Adidas Dream 100 2 weeks ago with Trae Armstrong (Deer Valley, AZ) who was scheduled to run this weekend but had to drop out.  The three runners finished within 0.1 or each other with Muhammad and Armstrong finishing in 10.72 and Acy in 10.73.  Allen and Armstrong finished within .01 of each other at the Arizona State Meet with Allen at 10.49 and Armstrong at 10.48.

Trae Armstrong will be providing some commentary from the AZ Fox Sports booth.

For the girls Ky Westbrook from Chandler, AZ is the top seed in the girls 100 meter dash with a seed time of 11.42.  Westbrook will be challenged by Peyton Chaney from Nerinx Hall, Missouri (11.59) and Sierra Williams from Highland, Colorado (11.69).  Close behind is Salpointe Catholic sprinter Michaela Crunkleton-Wilson (11.71) and Plasarae Johnson (11.85).


200 Dash

Once again Devon Allen is the top seed in the 200 meter dash with the only time under 21 seconds at 20.74.  Khalfani Muhammad is 2nd with a 21.10 and Tremayne Acy is seeded 3rd with a 21.40.  Napolean Singletary from Roosevelt, CA (21.60), Zach Lewis (21.90) and Willie Latin from James Logan, CA (21.94) could also make in to the finals.


Peyton Chaney is the only sprinter to break 24 seconds with a seed time of 23.74.  Close behind Chaney is Ky Westbrook with a time of 24.09, Sierra Williams (24.13), Michaela Crunkleton-Wilson (24.41) and Akia Armstrong from Deer Valley, AZ (24.42).



400 Dash

Willie Latin is the favorite in the boys 400 meter dash race with a seed time of 48.27.   Also in the mix are Bryan Nunez from Cardinal Newman in Northern California (49.04), Cameron Wooden from Higley in AZ (49.26) and Simon Whitfield from Veritas Prep in AZ (49.62).

In the girls race Jeannuel Williams from Highland in California comes to the 400 meter dash with a seed time of 55.18 followed by 2nd seed Shaporria Montgomery from Desoto, TX (56.31), Peyton Chaney (56.53), Dominique Jackson (57.00) and Imani Adams from Chandler, AZ (57.10).
