Nike Cross Nationals, OR

Fayetteville-Manlius NY after their record 6th straight victory.

Christian Brothers Academy NJ ran their way to the schools first national title.

Saratoga Springs NY finished 2nd to F-M with an impressive showing.

Southlake Carroll TX was a narrow 2nd, just 4 points behind the boys from CBA.

Futsum Zeinasellassie won the individual NXN title with an impressive runaway performance.

Sarah Baxter made an early charge and held off all challengers for the girls individual title.

Girls Championship Race

  • Sarah Baxter (CA) won the individual title with a time of 17:38, 3rd fastest on the course.  Haley Pierce (DE) was 2nd, Katie Knight (WA) was 3rd and Jillian Fanning (NY) was 4th.
  • Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) set history once again with their 6th straight team victory at NXN.  This years squad faced quite a bit of adversity, losing two of their top-5 but still retained their position atop the podium.  Saratoga Springs (NY) made them work for it, finishing 2nd by just 24 points with a score of 60 to 84.  Tatnall (DE) finished an impressive 3rd with 186 points.

Boys Championship Race

  • Christian Brothers Academy NJ won with 91 points over Southlake Carroll TX with 95 points! Davis UT was 3rd with 157 points.
  • Futsum Zeinasellassie wins with a CR time of 15:03.  Daniel Vertiz 2nd and Craig Nowak 3rd!

  • Girls Race Summary from Kenny Fried
    • Karlie Garcia of Roseville, Calif., and Darren Fahy of Carlsbad, Calif., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional today.  In the girls’ race, Garcia went out hard followed closely by a large chase group, including Kelsey Braithwaite of Perry, Utah, and Makena Morley of Bigfork, Mont.  At approximately two miles, Garcia took command of the course and never looked back, capturing the title in 17:46, marking her second year to qualify for the FLCCC National Finals. Braithwaite, a senior at Box Elder High School, finished second in 17:55, with Morley, a freshman at Bigfork High School, placing third in 18:07.

  • Boys Race Summary from Kenny Fried

    • In the boys’ race, Darren Fahy, a senior at La Costa Canyon High School, ran with a pack of twenty until the second mile when he made his move to distance himself from the other runners.  Nathan Weitz of Spokane, Wash., attempted to overcome Fahy with 200 meters remaining, but Fahy held onto the lead to win the race in 15:29.  Weitz, a senior at The Oaks Classical Christian Academy finished second in 15:30, with Robert Farnsworth, a senior at Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, placing third in 15:41. Fahy and Weitz are two-time FLCCC National Finalists.

Highlights

  • Karlie Garcia (CA) won the girls race with a time of 17:46 over Kelsey Braithwaite (UT) with a time of 17:55.  
  • Darren Fahy (CA) won the boys title over Nathan Weitz (WA)
  • Emily Nist finished 11th but will be heading to Nationals after 5th place finisher Sara Robinson dropped out due to a Soccer Tournament commitment next weekend.

AAU XC National Championships, FL

Highlights

  • Boys High School Race:  Michael Jones (1st Coast) won the boys race in 15:58.23 over Paul Patterson (Cleveland) with 16:06.89.  Philip Meyer (Cheyenne Mountain) finished 3rd in 16:11.30.  Cheyenne Mountain won the team title with 43 points over 1st Coast with 83 points.
  • Girls High School Race: Caterina Karas (Derby City) won the girls race with a time of 17:54.11.  Heather Bates (Platter River) finished 2nd in 18:12.70 and Paige Skorseth (Unattached) took 3rd in 18:42.62.  Cheyenne Mountain won the girls title with 30 points followed closely by Derby City Lightning with 34 points.
