CA Future Stars: Young Stars Who Shined Last Week

California's next wave of talent is already making national noise early this track season. From record-chasing freshmen to dominant sophomores, these athletes are setting the tone for the future.

Sterling White (Class of 2029)

On a Tuesday in Westlake Village, CA, Sterling White ran a historic 3200m race at the Oaks Christian vs. Westlake Dual meet. White finished in 9:07.13, winning the race by 32 seconds and earning the U.S. No.1 spot in the country. It is also one of the fastest times ever by a California freshman, and it puts him close to Eric Hulst's 9:01.3 (converted from 2 miles) freshman class record.

Brooklyn Fowler (Class of 2028)

Long Beach Wilson's Brooklyn Fowler has stepped up to the plate in her sophomore season with outstanding consistency from the start. In her first race of the season, she ran 55.50 in the 400m to improve by 3 seconds from last year and rank her the No.1 sophomore in the state. Since then, she's run two more 400s at 56 or faster and has helped Long Beach Wilson run the fastest 4x400m in the country.

Maya Pawlowicz (Class of 2029)

Maya Pawlowicz was the superstar freshman who helped lead JSerra Catholic to holding the U.S. No. 1 team rank during the last cross country season for so long, and now she's making a name for herself on the track. She currently holds personal bests of 2:13 in the 800m, 4:53 in the 1600m, and 11:23 in the 3200m. Her 1600m is most impressive since it comes from an eighth-place finish in a loaded field at The TEN and ranks her U.S. No.2 out of all freshmen.

Livia Allison (Class of 2029)

At the 45th Sundevil Invitational, Livia Allison made an incredible 18-10.50 leap to finish second overall in the invitational section. This mark didn't have a wind reading, but it's still telling to see a freshman jump this far in March.

Emmanuel Pullins (Class of 2028)

In his second year at Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks), Emmanuel Pullins has put a stamp on every event he competes in. He's set five personal records this year in the 100m (10.59), 200m (21.53), 400m (49.50), long jump (23-1.75), and triple jump (45-9.5). His two jumps are the highest out of sophomores in the state and rank in California's top 20. Pullins is clearly on his way to a great season and will play a crucial role in Notre Dame's relay success during CIF.

Elijah Medina (Class of 2028)

After a stellar sophomore season in cross country, Elijah Medina hasn't skipped a beat at the start of track. He's currently ranked the fastest sophomore in the nation for the 1600m at 4:10.32 at The TEN last week, where he finished fourth overall. Medina also has big wins under his belt from the Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational; he won the Eric Hulst Invitational 3200m in 9:07.56.

Liam Tassa (Class of 2029)

Liam Tassa was a key member of a great Mountain View cross country team last fall, and he's carrying that success to the track during his freshman year. He's run 4:18.15 for 1600m and 1:55.92 for 800m so far this season. Although 4:18 is an outstanding time, Tassa's 800m time ranks him U.S. No. 2, demonstrating how elite he can be in high school.
