California high school track and field athletes posted personal bests across multiple events during the week of March 23-29.
Below, check out the athletes who broke through this past week and will look to carry that momentum into a great 2026 season.
Akosa Onyia (Temecula Preparatory) cleared 6-3 in the high jump at South Valley Cluster 2 on March 25, improving from his previous best of 5-8. The mark ranks #57 in California and set a school record for Temecula Preparatory. Onyia won the event among 15 competitors and also posted a personal best of 20-1.25 in the long jump, up from 18-8.
Millie Bayles (Trabuco Hills) ran 4:59.00 in the 1600 meters at The TEN on March 27, breaking five minutes for the first time after running 5:11.53 in March 2026. The time places her #37 in the state among 13,999 athletes and she finished 14th of 220 competitors.
Chanel Daniel (Cajon) clocked 24.83 in the 200 meters at Cajon vs Beaumont on March 24, lowering her previous best of 25.56. The sophomore ranks #44 in California and #7 among sophomores statewide, setting a Cajon High School record and winning out of 30 competitors.
Geovanni Gilpen (North Torrance) cleared 6-6 in the high jump at Torrance City Champs on March 25, improving six inches from his March 2026 mark of 6-0. The junior set a North Torrance High School record and won out of 18 competitors.
Kymani Hollis (Warren) threw 58-5 in the shot put at Beach Cities Invitational on March 28, adding more than seven feet to his previous best of 51-4 from March 2026. The senior ranks #9 in California, finishing second among 73 competitors.
Illiana Nierengarten (Castro Valley) ran 10:50.90 in the 3200 meters at the WACC League Meet on March 25, dropping 44 seconds from her previous best of 11:34.46. The junior ranks #37 in California and #12 among juniors, winning among six competitors.
Grace Parle (Royal) leaped 39-11.75 in the triple jump at Royal vs Oak Park on March 25, adding more than eight feet to her previous mark of 31-10.75. The junior ranks #5 in California and #2 among juniors, winning among five competitors and also running a personal best of 17.20 in the 100-meter hurdles, down from 20.42.
