At the Simi Valley Invitational, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks and Cathedral stole the spotlight in the Boys' 4x100m Invitational.
This was a highly anticipated matchup before the gun went off, since both teams were in the CIF State finals last season. Notre Dame finished third overall, while Cathedral faicicled to get the baton around the track.
On Saturday, the two teams started identically until they reached the third leg, where Notre Dame gapped the field. Notre Dame's Emmanuel Pullins received the baton for the fourth leg, making it look like a done deal. However, Cathedral transfer Gianni Haynes closed the gap quickly and may have caught Pullins with more real estate.
Notre Dame clocked 40.76 to break the meet record. followed by Cathedral, who ran 40.78 to also go under the previous meet record. This competitive race ranks both teams as the top five fastest in California this season.
