5 Biggest Takeaways from the 2025 CIF State XC Championships

5. Buchanan Delivered

Buchanan (76) outlasted Mira Costa (84) in a highly close team battle to secure their first state title since 2022. This is a huge confidence boost for a young team that placed 3rd at Nike Cross Nationals last season.

Next week Mira Costa, JSerra Catholic, and Trabuco Hills will join them at NXN.

4. Jesuit Completes Dominant CA Season

No one was beating Jesuit all season in California and that wasn't changing at the CIF State XC Championships. They dominated the Division 2 race to win their second consecutive title and make history with their 11th State XC Championship in school history.

Additionally, their team time of 1:15:36 makes them the 3rd-fastest team in D2 history and the 4th-fastest across all divisions, only behind the Newbury Park teams.

3. Cooper's Ultimate Confirmation

Kicking off the CIF State Meet, Cooper Stream unleashed an incredible kick to win one of the most competitive races of the day. This race added to the confirmation he already received from winning the CIF Sac-Joaquin XC Championships against the Jesuit boys.

Copper, along with Conor Lott, Maximo Zavaleta, Alijah Murillo, and Aidan Antonio, automatically qualified for NXN next week.

2. Conor Lott's 2-Peat

Despite an up-and-down season, Conor Lott managed to win back-to-back CIF State XC Championships, joining an elite list of Californian legends. The last boy to win back-to-back in D1 was Matt Strangio from Jesuit in 2018-2019.

Lott now has the unique opportunity to compete at the Nike Cross Nationals and the Brooks XC Championships after receiving a Brooks Golden Ticket this season.

1. Summer Wilson Makes History

After breaking the 3-mile national cross country record last week, Summer Wilson dominated the Division 2 race to break the Woodward Park course record. Her 16:20 broke Sadie Engelhardt's record set last year at the Clovis XC Invitational.

Wilson is one of three girls who set division records at the CIF State Meet yesterday. Jaelyn Williams from Eastlake broke the D1 record (16:28.1), and Ella Mogannam from Lick Wilmerding broke the D5 record (16:54.2).  Aelo Curtis from Ventura and Amaya Bharadwaj from Palo Alto will join those record breakers at NXN next week.
