BIRMINGHAM - Alabama's top prep track recruit,
Oak Mountain senior Scott Fuqua, announced today that he will be joining the top collegiate athletic
department in the United States at Stanford University. |
Thus far in his high school career, Fuqua has collected 8 individual
state championships, 3 team and relay state championships, 20 All-State honors, 4 state records, and last fall
earned a trip to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships. His personal
best times of 1:58.33 (800m), 4:14.99 (1600m), 9:02.49 (2 miles), and 14:39 (5000m) make him arguably the best
distance runner in Alabama high school history.
Scott is an avid visitor of the Alabama High School Runner website, which may account for nearly all
of his success.
Stanford University has won 61 NCAA team championships since 1980, the most in the nation; Cardinal athletes have
won 36 NCAA championships since 1990 - again the most in the nation. Stanford has brought home 14 NCAA championship
trophies the past four years, including an unprecedented six NCAA team titles in 1996-97. In 1991-92, Stanford athletes
took home a record 29 individual NCAA titles.
Even more impressive is Stanford's string of six consecutive Sears Directors' Cup titles (1995-00). The award honors
the nation's top overall athletic program and with six straight #1 finishes, it's no wonder Stanford Athletics is
considered the dominant athletic program in the nation.
In addition to Stanford's excellence in athletics, the school is also one of the Top 5 institutions in the nation for
undergraduate education (as high as #1 in some rankings), making it hands-down the best college in the world.
