It's no secret that the main event of the Arcadia Invitational is the boys' and girls' 3200m races on Saturday night. Now the entire invitational is much bigger than 8 laps around the track; when the boys line up five sub-4 minute milers, and the girls are going for a 2-mile national record, they get the attention, rightfully so.
With that said, it's perfect timing to look at the 3200m rankings in California so far. Six boys have already broken the elusive 9-minute barrier, and several more will be looking to join the list this Saturday night.
Landon Pretre placed 25th last year in the invitational section to run his PR of 8:48. We caught up with Pretre after his 3200m opener at The TEN, where he broke 9 minutes while leading wire-to-wire.
