POLL Boys Track and Field Performer of the Week


Congratulations to Justin Johnson of Jesuit (SJ) last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week.


Justin, a junior, ran a CA No. 5 and PR time in the 200m of 21.17 (-0.6) to win the event at the Sacramento Meet of Champions at American River College. He also PR'd with a 10.68 (-0.5) for third in the 100m and helped the 4x100m relay team to a CA No. 10 time of 41.79.

Justin received 53 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Robert Stitts, a senior at El Cerrito (NC), was second with 23 percent, and Nickolas Miller, a senior at Clovis North (CS), was third with 14 percent.

Congratulations to all athletes whose performances warrant consideration in this weekly poll. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.

Kathir Balakrishnan (Fremont/CC) - Kathir, a senior, defended his titles in three events at the SCVAL/EC Finals at Wilcox HS. He won the 100m in 10.82 (2.3), the 110m hurdles in 15.11 (1.7), and the 300m hurdles in 42.25.

Brandon Gorski (Mater Dei/SS) - Brandon, a sophomore, took over the state lead in the high jump with a 6-9 personal record to win the Trinity League title for the second year in a row. That mark is tied for fourth nationally in the sophomore class.

McKay Madsen (Clovis North/CS) - McKay, a sophomore, briefly took the state lead in the shot put with a 63-4.50 PR at the Frosh/Soph County Championships at Clovis West HS. He also won the discus throw with a best of 172-7.

Brendon See (JSerra/SS) - Brendon, a senior, swept the throws at the Trinity League Finals for the second year in a row. He re-took the state lead in the shot put with a 65-10 PR and won the discus throw with a best of 191-0, his third consecutive meet with a 190-plus throw and fourth this season.

Jeyquan Smith (Cajon/SS) - Jeyquan, a senior, dropped PRs in both sprints, helped the 4x100m relay to victory, and placed second in the long jump at the Citrus Belt League Finals at Yucaipa HS. His winning 200m time of 21.08 (0.0) ranks tied fourth in the state, his winning 100m of 10.48 (0.0) ranks tied for CA No. 8, and the 4x1 time of 41.64 ranks tied for CA No. 4. 

Jordan Washington (Jordan/SS) - Jordan, a junior, swept the short sprints at the Moore League Finals at Wilson HS, running 10.36 (1.3) to defend his title in the 100m, and 20.94 (1.0) to win the 200m.
