VOTE CA Boys Cross Country Runner of the Week

Congratulations to last week's top vote-getter, Jude DeVries of Montgomery (NC)!!

DeVries, a senior, rolled to victory at the Viking Opener, running 9:43.9 to win by 36 seconds -- shattering the school meet record by 25 seconds with the No. 2 all-time performance at the 35-season-old meet -- on the hilly 2-mile layout at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.

DeVries received 31 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Grant Morgenfeld of Palo Alto (CC) was second in the voting.

Each week we will put seven athletes on the line and leave it up to you to select the overall XC Runner of the Week. Our objective each week will be to select top performers from across the state.

This week's candidates (listed alphabetically by last name)

Eamon Gordon (Dos Pueblos/SS) - The sophomore was the fastest boy at the Raider Invitational, running 15:46.71 to win by just under seven seconds on the 3-mile course at College Park in Oxnard.

Jayden Hernandez (Godinez/SS) - The junior was a nine-second winner in the elite boys race at the Dana Hills Invitational, running 14:35.1 on the iconic 3-mile campus course at Dana Hills High.

Myles Nicacio (Sanger/CS) - The senior was the fastest boy on the course at the Douglas Rudolf Invitational, running 15:39.35 over the 5K layout at Mooney Grove Park to win by 10 seconds.

Landon Pretre (Menlo/CC) - The sophomore followed his impressive performance at Woodbridge with a victory at the Ram Invitational running 13:35 on to win by 22 seconds on the 2.7-mile Westmoor HS course in Daly City. 

Omar Reyes (El Camino/SD) - The junior held off a tough challenge to win the elite varsity boys race at the Carlsbad Grit & Grind Challenge, running 15:11.50 to win by 2.4 seconds on the 3-mile Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course layout. 

Cameron Rhone (Long Beach Poly/SS) - The senior was the top runner from CA at Portland XC, running 14:59.1 on the 5K course at Blue Lake Park in suburban Fairview, Oregon to place third overall -- 3.9 seconds behind the winner -- in Jim Danner Championship at the multi-state competition.

Nathan Short (Folsom/SJ) - The senior was a narrow winner at the Jessup Invitational, running 16:49.80 to win by 1.1 seconds on the 3.2-mile course at William Jessup College in Rocklin.
