PREVIEW Top Track and Field Returners in the LA City Section

GIRLS

Anise Becker (Carson/So.) - Sprints
Returning LAC champion in the 400, running 1:00.33 in the final to outlast Granada Hills returning junior Simone Bart-Plange (1:00.40) and Carson returning sophomore Jaya Westby (1:01.11). Westby is the returning section leader in the 300m hurdles (49.58).

Carson Sprinters
The Colts are loaded with speed, aside from Becker, Redmond, and Westby, frosh Kaitlyn Williams was the fastest LAC girl in the finals of the 60-meter dash at the recent Winter Champs, with juniors Leondra Amos, Ari'yona Smith, and Sahara Wray (a transfer from St. Bernard/SS) not far behind. (In prelims, Wray went 7.83 and Amos clocked 7.84.) The team of Williams, Wray, Amos, and Becker won the 800m SMR at the Winter Champs (1:50.10)

Isabel Castagnola (Granada Hills Charter/Sr.) - Distances
The LAC's top cross country runner in the fall is also the top returner for 3200m (12:12.48). She won five 3-mile races during the XC season, including the LAC Division 1 title.

Reign Redmond (Carson/Jr.) - Sprints
One of the state's top returning sprinters, Redmond dropped 2021 PRs of 11.75 (1.5) -- the No. 1 returning wind-legal time in CA -- to win the 100 meters at Arcadia, and 24.66 (1.5) for 200m for third at Arcadia. In December, she ran a sizzling 7.44 for 60 meters at an all-comers in San Diego. An injury kept her from competing at the Winter Champs where the meet record is 7.50. (At right in photo above)

Zoe Tibbo (North Hollywood/Sr.) - Jumps
Reigning LAC champion in the long jump after going 17-2 in the final. She placed second in the triple jump (35-3.50). Carson junior Aniya Outley is the returning section leader in the triple (36-0.50).

Lauryn Williams (Carson/So.) - Throws
The transfer from St. Bernard (SS) was a CIF finalist in the shot put and her best so far this winter, 38-6, slots her above new teammate Mi'Ah Molette (38-1) as the LAC's returning leader.
