The Los Angeles City Section has not crowned a team champion in two seasons as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the LAC did hold separate boys and girls championship meets last summer -- without spectators -- it did not score the team competition.

According to the section website's list of past champions, Dorsey has won seven of the past 10 boys team titles, and Carson has won six consecutive and seven of the past nine girls team titles.

We fully expect those streaks to be back on the line come this May.

Pulling from returners who excelled at the 2021 CIF-LAC Finals, as well as top marks in the MileSplit database, here's a sampling of some of the top athletes in the Los Angeles City Section to watch this outdoor season. (Athletes are listed alphabetically.)

BOYS

Arlis Boardingham (Birmingham Community Charter/Sr.) - Jumps
The LAC open division football player of the year and University of Florida recruit is the returning LAC leader in the triple jump (42-0) and ranks No. 2 in the long jump (22-1.50).

Jaylen Durham (Hamilton/Sr.) - Hurdles
City Section returning leader in both the 110m hurdles (15.15/1.9) and the 300mH (40.84). He ran his 300mH PR in winning the LAC title last June and his 110mH PR in a preliminary at the unofficial CA Championships, a 0.18 drop from his winning time at the LAC Final.

Max Fields (Palisades Charter/So.) - Distances
The LAC boys cross country runner of the year is also the section's returning leader for 3200m (9:55.68) and he ranks No. 2 for 1600m (4:37.70), and No. 5 for 800m (2:08.02).

Finley Hanson (Granada Hills Charter/Jr.) - Distance
The section's top returner in the 800m after placing a close second in 2:01.81 at the LAC Finals. Ran his 2:00.73 PR last May.

Collin Harris (Dorsey/Sr.) - Jumps
Returning LAC Finals long jump champion, hitting a substantial 23-00.75 PR on his final attempt at the section final.

Mykale Mundy (Dorsey/Sr.) - Sprints
Mundy placed second to Dijon Stanley in the 400m at the LAC Finals, running 51.13, and placed third in the 200m (22.80).

Dijon Stanley (Granada Hills Charter/Jr.) - Sprints
LAC's top returner in the 100 meters (11.13), 200m (22.13), and 400m (48.54). He won City Section titles in the latter two events.

Amari Yolas (Palisades Charter, Jr.) - Sprints
Yolas dropped the fastest 100-meter time at the CIF-LAC Finals last June, winning the Championship race in 11.29. Carson's Jaden Jones, now a senior, won the Invitational 100m in 11.43.
