Paige Sommers Re-Breaks Her Own National Pole Vault Record

Paige Sommers' climb up the all-time leaderboard isn't over just yet.

The Californian continued her ascent up the national high school girls pole vault rankings on Wednesday at the Marmonte League Prelims/Finals, capturing a new outdoor national record of 14 feet, 9 inches.

The mark re-set her own national mark of 14-8.5, which she secured in April at the Vaulter Magazine Championships.

And it now also ties the overall national pole vault record of 14-9, which is also held by Seattle native Chloe Cunliffe. The West Seattle graduated cleared that bar indoors in 2019.

Sommer's clearance comes nearly two months after she registered a national record of 14 feet, 8.5 inches in Menifee at the Vaulter Magazine Championships.

But this is no new coincidence.

The Duke University signee cleared 14-feet for the fourth time in 2021 and for the seventh time over her high school career.

Deciding to enter the competition at 12-feet, she cleared four straight heights before missing her first attempt at 14-feet.

Sommer then struck gold on her next two clearances, capturing first-jump bars at 14-4 and 14-9.

Her next three attempts at 14-10 came up short.

Sommers once again showed the climb to 15-feet may not be impossible for a high school girl.

Sommers would have to clear 4.60 meters (15-1) in order to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
