- This is a dual meet team competition that matches the all-time marks in one section against those in another using dual meet scoring and individual event participation rules.
- The first phase was head-to-head. If you missed any of those articles, click here to get caught up. This phase of the competition is head-to-head semifinals in a double-dual scoring format. This is the last of those matchups.
- There are six sections in CA that range between 101 and 198 schools: Central, San Diego, Los Angeles, Central Coast, North Coast, Sac-Joaquin. Those are that have been included in this dual meet competition.
- There are three sections with a combined total of just 105 schools: San Francisco, Oakland, Northern. Those sections don't have the depth of athletes to be competitive in this virtual format. Sorry, but they were not part of the dual meet tournament.
- After the dual tournament, sections were eliminated leaving three semifinalists per gender to be scored in a double-dual: North Coast, Sac-Joaquin and San Diego in the boys and Central Coast, North Coast and Sac-Joaquin in the girls.
- And then there's the Southern Section, which includes 37 percent of the schools in the state. We have something special lined up down the road to involve the beast that is our friends in the SS.
- Meets are held at neutral sites on a perfect 70-degree evening with no wind. Scoring is based on the best all-time marks from each section. Times may be converted. Altitude is not a factor.
- Sections are limited to three entries per event and athletes are limited to four individual events. Dual and double-dual meet scoring is 5-3-1 for 1st through 3rd with a 5-0 score for both relays. There is separate competition for boys and girls.
- Meets are presented in order of events with updated scoring after each event. The approximate conclusion of each field event is slotted throughout the track event schedule.

4x100 Relay
Over the years, the Berkeley girls have posted great times but also suffered some frustrating and devastating setbacks-dropping the baton or running out of their lane. However, the 1981 team had no such problem, rolling to a state record 45.13 for the victory. Score: NC 5, SJ 0. Running score: NC 5, SJ 0.

Few would argue that the Sac-Joaquin Section is a major player in the distance races. Sure enough, Oak Ridge's Alex Kosinski (4:38.15 in 2007), Rio Americano's Eileen Claugus (4:39.1 converted after running a 4:40.7 mile) and Granite Bay's Caitlin Chock (4:40.88 in 2004). Chock's time was not for her school but next in line is Davis star Olivia O'Keeffe (4:42.71 in 2018) anyway. Score: SJ 9, NC 0. Running score: SJ 9, NC 5.
High Jump
Be prepared for a lot of sweeps and near-sweeps. This is a 'near' one as Woodland's Julie Broughton (6-2.25 in 1989) and St. Francis' Karen Lysaght (6-0 in 1980) went 1-2. No one else could clear 6-feet, so four jumpers -- Beyer's Kathy Hamilton (1979) and Cordova's Tanya Smith (1991) from the SJS and Acalanes' Maggie VanZeeland (1981) and Sonoma Valley's Mindy Wiley (2005) -- cleared 5-11 to share the point. Score: SJ 8.50, NC 0.50. Running score: SJ 17.50, NC 5.50.
100 Hurdles
Berkeley St. Mary's Trinity Wilson (13.15 in 2011) stands third on the all-time list and she edges Dublin's Mecca McGlaston (13.18 in 2015) for the gold. No photo could separate St. Elizabeth's Julian Purvis (13.32 in 2007) and El Cerritos' Kaylah Robinson (13.32 in 2017). Score: NC 8.50, SJ 0.50. Running score: SJ 18, NC 14.

Going back to the '60s, before there girls were allowed to compete at the State Meet, Mira Loma's Kathy Hammond (51.8 in 1969) captures this event. Bishop O'Dowd's Tierra Robinson-Jones (52.37 in 2018) tops Sheldon's Deonna Lawrence (52.77 in 2003) for third. Score: SJ 6, NC 3. Running score: SJ 24, NC 17.
Long Jump
Hercules' Jamesha Youngblood (21-0 in 2007), James Logan's Jernae Wright (20-11.50 in 1996) and Holy Names' Ke'Nyia Richardson (20-10.50 in 2007) are all Top 10 performers and this time Youngblood and Richardson are on the same team. Score: NC 9, SJ 0. Running score: NC 26, SJ 24.

Truly one of the North Coast's best events. St. Elizabeth's Ashton Purvis could be on this list twice for her 11.17 in 2010 and 11.40 as a freshman in 2007 but since she can't split herself, she's the winner at 11.17. Berkeley's Sharon Ware (11.34 in 1980) grabs the silver over Mt. Eden's Charelle Garrett (11.44 in 2007) for the sweep. Score: NC 9, SJ 0. Running score: NC 35, SJ 24.
Discus Throw
Although the SJS was hit with back-to-back 9-0 sweeps, it came back for a 1-2 finish in this event behind Modesto Downey's Suzy Powell (188-4 in 1994) and Laguna Creek's Chaniqua Ross (177-1 in 1997). Washington's Laura DeSnoo (167-1 in 1981) gets up for the third. Score: SJ 8, NC 1. Running score: NC 36, SJ 32.

You didn't really expect a runaway right from the start, did you? Del Oro's Cathilyn McIntosh (2:05.22 in 2017) and Fairfield's Dominique Jackson (2:06.09 in 2007) sandwich Livermore's Jessica Spies (2:05.84 in 1981) to almost draw even. Score: SJ 6, NC 3. Running score: NC 39, SJ 38.
Pole Vault
Although neither section is considered a power, Cordova's Brysun Stately (13-6 in 2005) captures this event. Both Carondelet's Kelly Kern (2019) and Granite Bay's Katie Zingheim (2011) traversed 13-4 with the same number of misses, so they share second and third. Score: NC 7, SJ 2. Running score: NC 46, SJ 40.
300 Hurdles
Although the NC can't duplicate the near-sweep in the short hurdles, James Logan's Thandi Stewart (40.45 in 2010) wins one of the most exciting races of the day over the SJS duo of Fairfield's Daje Pugh (40.57 in 2012) and Vacaville's Jurnee Woodward (40.62 in 2016). Score: NC 5, SJ 4. Running score: NC 51, SJ 44.
Shot Put
Another great competition as Ygnacio Valley's Kristin Heaston (52-11.50 in 1993) inches out Laguna Creek's Jessica Pressley (51-5 in 2003) to prevent a repeat of the 8-1 setback in the discus. Woodland's Jill Camarena (50-11.50 in 1999) is a solid third. Score: NC 5, SJ 4. Running score: NC 56, SJ 48.

The NCS swept the 100-can they do it again? You bet. St. Elizabeth's Ashton Purvis (22.90 in 2010) combined with Berkeley's Aisha Margain (23.38 in 2000) and James Logan's Angelique Smith (23.44 in 2004) to pull off the sweep and sit just four points from the win. With five runners among the Top 10, there was little doubt who would win this event but the SJS did what it desperately must do now-sweep the last three events for the victory. The Davis duo of Laurynne Chetlet (9:52.51 in 2008) and Fiona O'Keeffe (10:00.85 in 2015) wrap around Granite Bay's Caitlin Chock (9:58.51 in 2004) to run away with event. Score: SJ 9, NC 0. Running score: NC 65, SJ 57.
Triple Jump
There would be denying Merrill West's Brittany Daniels (44-11.75 in 2004). Fear not NC fans, Holy Names' Ke'Nyia Richardson (44-5.50 in 2007) gets second to clinch no worse than a tie and James Logan's Ciarra Brewer (43-4.25 in 2009) got the point needed for the section win. Score: SJ 5, NC 4. Running score: NC 69, SJ 62.
4x400 Relay
Union City James Logan is a powerhouse program and the 2004 quartet that ran 3:37.85 coasted in for the victory to continue the celebration. Score: NC 5, SJ 0. Running score: NC 74, SJ 62.
