10) Jeff Duensing Esperanza (SS) Shot Put/Discus
Esperanza coach Bill Pendleton and Newport Harbor coach Tony Ciarelli will both be inducted in the Mt. SAC Relays Hall of Fame in 2020. They have been competing against each other for 35 years and true to form, each coach has one of the top throwers in the state. Ciarelli coaches Aidan Elbettar (Libby Cline photo) who finished in 2nd place in the shot put with a best of 62-09.25 and had a discus best of 197-04. Pendleton's protege is senior Jeff Duensing (Josh Barber photo) who was also impressive in both events. His shot put best was 66-08 and he finished in 8th place at the state meet. In the discus, Duensing finished in 4th place at the state meet and launched his best mark of 190-09 at the SS Division 3 Finals.
