Weekend Recap: Ewert Walks Away With Millrose Win

Taylor Ewert Just Misses Own National Racewalk Record

Beavercreek senior Taylor Ewert refuses to quit dominating the Racewalk. Give her a distance and she'll probably dominate it.

On Saturday, she took down the professionals and collegians once again at the 113th NYRR Millrose Games in New York City, besting the field in the 1 Mile Racewalk with her 6:34.53 mark.

The multi-talented superstar was only a few ticks off her junior national record in the event which she set at Millrose last winter. Her 6:28.21 at the 2019 Millrose won that event, too, giving her the two fastest high school marks in the event all-time.

The third fastest according to our database? 6:53.44

Ewert also competed in the 1 Mile Run, finishing 6th in a star-studded field, headlined by a US No. 4 All-Time mark from Pennsylvanian Marlee Starliper (4:37.76).

Ewert's 4:50.07 was an indoor personal best and OH No. 2 All-Time, adding even more accolades to the future Razorback's already jam-packed resume.

Shepler, Hunt Continue To Dominate Pole Vault; McClure Continues Meteoric Rise

Vandalia-Butler's Dalton Shepler was entered in both the OSU High School Qualifier #4 and the Millrose Games this weekend. According to the senior, after dealing with sickness the week before, Shepler opted to play it safe, stay in Ohio and compete in Columbus instead of the Big Apple.

At the OSU meet, Shepler cleared 15-8 - a season's second best mark - but still fell short of the 16-0 clearance he produced at the Tiffin Opener #1. After clearing 16-10 this past spring, the phenom should be a heavy favorite to bring home some national accolades this track season.

While Shepler upped the ante in his own right, over in Alliance at the Mount Union Qualifier, Green's Connor McClure threw his hat into the ring with a 15-9 clearance for the win.

A 13-9 performer as a sophomore this past outdoor season, McClure has figured out the secret to success this indoor season as he has now cleared 15-0 at his past three meets and now holds the fourth best mark in the state as well as the 30th best mark in the country.

Jed Sisco (Little Miami) also climbed to 15-9 at the Cedarville Richey Tune-Up, a massive personal best for the senior. The pole vault continues to shine as the top event in the country as more and more athletes challenge the 16-0 barrier.

On the girls' side, Greenville's Riley Hunt continued to climb in her own right, pushing the top mark in the state to 13-3 at the Tiffin Open #4. Hunt's indoor personal best moves her within four inches of her outdoor personal best of 13-7 and into sixth in the entire country this indoor season.

Braun, Brown Run US No. 1's in 400 and 3200

Thomas Worthington super-sophomore Justin Braun continues to push the envelope this winter.

The only question is: How low can he go in the quarter mile?

Now at 47.36 in the event after his victory at the Spire Scholastic Showcase, Braun owns the fastest mark in the nation as we enter the heart of February.

A 46.76 at last years Division 1 Outdoor State Championship earned him the sixth fastest mark in US history for a freshman and so far this indoor season, he has shown that he'll soon have a place near the top of the all-time outdoor sophomore ranks.

Indoor, he now holds sixth fastest freshman mark and fourth fastest sophomore mark all-time (according to our database) with a lot of indoor season left.

For Shelby's Caleb Brown, the Spire Scholastic Showcase 3200 was just business as usual.

Coming off a decisive victory in the VA Showcase 1 Mile, Brown followed up that 4:15.19 with a US No. 1 in the 3200, 8:54.86.

Brown led three boys under 9:00 with West Virginia sophomore Larry Josh Edwards and Pennsylvania's Zachary Leachman all eclipsing the barrier. The three now hold the first, third, and fourth fastest marks in the country. As for Brown, his mark was .04 seconds of the SPIRE facility record, an indoor and lifetime best, and his first ever sub-9:00 mark.

Brown is padding his resume as he continues to shine on the national stage. Coming off his third place finish at NXN Nationals this December, he appears more than ready to compete for national hardware of the golden variety.

Serena Clark Pushes OH No. 1 60m Further Down

Lakota East's Serena Clark competed at the Cedarville Richey Tune-Up and showed again why she is widely considered the top sprinter in the entire Buckeye State.

Already sitting at OH No. 1, Clark once again padded her lead on the rest of the field with a 7.58 performance for the easy win.

Clark now climbs into the top 35 ranks in the country and is not far off her 7.52 personal best from last February's UK High School Indoor Invitational.

Not to be outdone, she is also OH No. 1 and US No. 25 in the 200 with her 24.44 season best from the Music City Indoor Invitational.
