Statewide Rankings by Division - Nov. 27 Update

DIVISION III

BOYS

1. Agoura (SS) -- Southern Section champion, ran 49 second gap, 15:38 average and beat runner-up Brea  Olinda by 84 points in a 24-team field.

2. Maria Carrillo (NC) -- North Coast Section champion, scored 28 points in a 22-team field with a 30 second 1-5 gap and 15:25 average.

3. Campolindo (NC) -- Second to Maria Carrillo in NCS, 25 points behind, with a 1:00 gap and 15:37 average.

4. Cathedral Catholic (SD) -- San Diego Section champion by 61 points over El Capitan with a 1:01 gap and 16:14 average in an 18-team field. Max Wilson and Blake Levy went 1-2 leading the way

5. Brea Olinda (SS) -- Distant No. 2 in the SS while running a tight 24-second 1-5 split and 15:59 average.

6. Central (CS) -- Team from Fresno won the Central Section title, putting up 35 points with a 1:27 gap and 16:25 average to earn a 78-point win over Frontier in a 22-team field.

7. Royal (SS) -- No. 3 from the Southern Section, just three points behind Brea Olinda running a 1:28 gap and 15:51 average.

8. East Union (SJ) -- Late-charging Sac-Joaquin Section winners put up 64 points with a 35-second gap and 17:19 average in a 10-team championship. They were an 18-point winner over Atwater with No. 3 Placer another seven points back.

9. Chico (NS) -- Dominated a 16-team field in the Northern Section final, posting 38 points, a 1:11 gap and 16:53 average.

10. St. Ignatius (CC) -- Central Coast Section champs by one point over Sacred Heart (87-88) warranting top-10 recognition. In a nine-team field, SI had a 1:14 gap and 17:11 average.

Others: Arroyo (SS), Atwater (SJ), Casa Grande (NC), Del Oro (SJ), El Capitan (SD), Moorpark (SS), Palos Verdes (SS), Placer (SJ), Sacred Heart (CC), St. John Bosco (SS).

GIRLS

1. Campolindo (NC) -- (Pictured) Senior Paloma Hancock and freshman Ellie Buckley led a dominant 26-point performance in the NCS championships. In the 20-team field, Campo had a 1-5 gap of just 57 seconds with an 18:03 average as the momentum they've been gaining over the past couple weeks shifted into a different gear.

2. Palos Verdes (SS) -- Senior Savannah Scriven ran to the title with classmate Samantha Steman crossing second as the Sea King ladies defended their Southern Section title with a 14-point victory over Brea Olinda, our previous No. 1 team.

3. Del Oro (SJ) -- Stunning 1-2-3 with Riley Chamberlain, Hannah Wirth and Emilie Merz for the SJS title, plus a week off to rest while most of the teams at the top of this list went hard this week, makes us think this team will challenge at the top.

4. Brea Olinda (SS) -- Southern Section runner-up by 14 points behind this ranking's No. 2 Palos Verdes and 57 points in front of No. 3 Yorba Linda. Actually ran a much tighter 1-5 (1:18) than PV in the 24-team field.

5. Cathedral Catholic (SD) -- Junior Trang Woolridge led a 33-point victory over runner-up El Capitan in the San Diego Section Championships on the 3-mile Morley Field layout. Cathedral Catholic put up 39 points, had a 58 second 1-5 and a 19:04 average.

6. Yorba Linda (SS) -- Junior Siena Palicke is one of the state's emerging elites and keeping this squad in the mix but they were closer to No. 4 Arroyo (eight-point difference) than they were No. 2 Brea. A tight turnaround after a tough race has us questioning if this ranking is too optimistic.

7. Edison (CS) -- The team from Fresno survived a great battle with Corcoran for the Central Section title. It was just a three-point difference in an 18-team field on the State Meet course at Woodward Park. Edison posted a 1:34 gap and 20:56 average.

8. Chico (NS) -- Nakia Clements, Sophie Sims and Una Griffith led the Northern Section champs, who posted 47 points in a 14-team every-division-on-the-line outlier of a championship format. While they only compete in divisions III-IV-V in the great NS, Chico's battles with Palo Cedro Foothill at the front can only make this team championship ready. The two-plus-week rest since the Nov. 14 finals can't hurt.

9. St. Ignatius (CC) -- A trio of juniors with Evie Cohen placing second, and  Sinead Garrett and Clare Milby scoring eight and nine points, respectively, led the 17-point victory over Sacred Heart for the CCS title.

10. Alameda (NC) -- A surprise runner-up to Campolindo while jumping over previously-ranked Maria Carrillo by seven points. The 2:04 gap and 19:08 average is slightly higher than Maria Carrillo but when they both took the line and raced the race, it was Alameda earning this spot. How? Perhaps because Alameda's top three scorers, Olivia Liuson, Geraldine Yue and Sophia Carpenter all ran 3-mile PRs.

Others: Arroyo (SS), Corcoran (CS), El Capitan (SD), Highland (CS), Maria Carrillo (NC), Nevada Union (SJ), Portola (SS), Sacred Heart (CC), South Torrance (SS), Torrance (SS).
