Newbury Park senior Nico Young's 14:28.90 coverage of 5000 meters over the Woodward Park course in Fresno at the Clovis Invitational less than two weeks ago ranks as the fastest 5K time in the state and No. 4 in the country.

Jesuit senior Matt Strangio's 5K romp of 14:39.90 over the Arcade Creek layout for the Capital Cross Challenge at the end of September slots as CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 11.

Both of those times lead their respective CIF divisions, which should come as no surprise from these two boys looking to defend their State Meet titles come the end of November.

This article ranks the top 25 boys for 5K by CIF division. Strangio (D-I) and Young (D-II) aren't the only defending State Meet champions toping these divisional ranking. JSerra senior Anthony Grover, a two-time D-IV champ, also leads his division.
