CA Stars Among Brooks PR Entries


CA athletes making the trip to compete at the Brooks PR Invite include State 3200 champion Kristin Fahy.


There are 10 California athletes entered to compete in the Brooks PR meet scheduled for Saturday at the University of Washington, including four CIF-State champions. 

Those State Meet Champions are:

  • Jacqueline Duarte (Chino Hills/SS), a sophomore who won the 1600m (4:42.58), is entered in the girls 1 mile run. Her 1600m time ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 5. She has a mile PR of 4:48.56. 
  • Matt Strangio (Jesuit/SJ), a junior who won the 1600 (4:08.07 PR) and placed third in the 3200 (8:57.69), is entered in the 2 mile run. His 1600m PR ranks CA No. 3 and U.S. No. 13. His 3200 of 8:47.97 ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 3.
  • Jamar Marshall (Stockton St. Mary's/SJ), a junior who won the 110 hurdles in the second-fastest all-conditions time in state history (13.31/3.3), is entered in the 110 hurdles. That time ranks U.S. No. 1.
  • Kristin Fahy (La Costa Canyon/SD), a senior headed to Stanford, who won the 3200 (10:11.38 PR), is entered into the 1 mile run. Her 3200 PR ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 9. Her mile PR of 4:49.98 ranks CA No. 3.

The other six competitors are Jazmyne Frost (Gardena Serra/SS), Noah Hibbard (El Monte Arroyo/SS),  Meagen Lowe (Buchanan/CS), Solomon Strader (West Ranch/SS), Ismail Turner (Hemet West Valley/SS), Bella Witt (Calabasas/SS).

  • Frost, a senior headed to USC, was second at the State Meet in the 200m (23.83/1.6) and third in the 100m (11.64/1.6). She is scheduled to run the 100m here. As a junior, she placed second in the 100m and third in the 200m. Frost has run 11.57 for 100m. She was fifth in the 100m here last year (12.12).
  • Hibbard, a senior scheduled to run the 1 mile, ran his PR in that distance of 4:08.69 to win the APU Distance Meet of Champions in April. That time ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 12. He is the Southern Section Division 1 champion for 1600m (4:11.65), was the runner-up at SS Masters (4:11.99) and reached the State Meet finals after a 4:11.09 in qualifying. He was 10th at State.
  • Lowe, a senior headed to Oregon State, was second at the State Meet in the 1600m (4:43.61 PR/CA No. 2/U.S. No. 7) and third in the 3200 (10:18.87). She ran her 3200 PR of 10:12.78 at Arcadia (CA No. 2/U.S. No.11). She is scheduled to run the 2-mile race here.
  • Strader, a junior, is the Southern Section Division 1 and Masters Meet champion for 400m. He was third at the State Meet (47.10). His PR of 47.04 from Masters ranks CA No. 4. He is scheduled to run the 400m.
  • Turner, a senior, won the CIF-SS Division 3 title in the 400m with a PR of 46.74 (CA No. 3/U.S. No. 11) and came back the next week to place second at the SS Masters Meet (47.49). He is entered in the 400m.
  • Witt, a sophomore, is among the top hurdlers in country whose season was cut short by disqualification at the league finals. Her 100m hurdles PR of 13.63 for third at Arcadia still ranks CA No. 3 and U.S. No. 17.
