North Coast Section in Review

For many years, the above stadium was the host site for the best Track and Field athletes in the North Coast Section. Of course, that is Edwards Stadium at Cal Berkeley.

This past season, a change was made and Diablo Valley College stepped in as the site which determined who would get to compete at Buchanan HS the following week.

The meet will be forever remembered for a moment during the girls' 800 meters that we will covered below.

This was also the final season for one of the North Coast Section greats, Redwood senior, Liam Anderson. He captured two more section Track and Field titles this season which gave him a total of five in the two longest distance races.

Amador Valley senior Chinyere Okoro completed her highly successful career with two more podium finishes at the California State Track and Field meet.

St. Mary's Berkeley junior Malcolm Clemons had an injury riddled season but was still able to post the best marks in both the long and triple jumps and qualified to the state meet in both events.

Clayton Valley senior Cameron Reynolds dealt with his own injury but was able to rebound and score well at the state meet.

SECTION FINAL HIGHLIGHT

While the CCS athletes avoided wet conditions the day before at Gilroy HS, the NCS athletes were not as fortunate. The meet was held at Diablo Valley College as mentioned above with constant rain throughout the meet.

The highlight of the meet that drew national attention took place in the girls' 800. Race leader Rayna Stanziano fell with less than a 100 to go. Samantha Wallenstrom passed the fallen leader but then did the unimaginable. She stopped. She encouraged Stanziano to get back and up and both runners raced in to finish first and second.
