Inland Empire's Best Set to Shine this Weekend

BOYS FIELD EVENTS

BOYS LONG JUMP

  • Meet Record: Nick Ross 23-8 (Vista Murrieta) 2009

Heritage's Deondre Ruth has burst onto the local scene!  The transfer from Oceanside was the San Diego section runner-up in 2018 and a State Meet qualifier.  His 23-8.25 leap is the second best wind-legal performance in California and the best in the Southern Section!  Looking to steal the stage will be Silverado's Jonathan Battee, who comes in off a 22-9 effort this past Wednesday.  Palm Springs' Damian Loman flew out to a wind-legal 22-7.5 at Arcadia while Elsinore's Kamari Maddox (pictured at right) is back from injury.  As Maddox was a Masters Meet qualifier in 2018, he owns a wind-legal best of 22-9.25.  Meanwhile, do not overlook Vista Murrieta sophomore Darius Hill, who was a Division 1 finalist as a freshman in 2018. (Hill is pictured above.)

BOYS TRIPLE JUMP

  • Meet Record: Nick Ross 49-4 (Vista Murrieta) 2009

Representing Oceanside in 2018, Heritage's Deondre Ruth bounded out to a 46-7.75 and placed 11th at the State Meet.  He's only improved as placed fifth at the Arcadia Invite last week with a 47-5.75 best.  He is fifth in the state and fourth in the Southern Section.  Murrieta Mesa's Kenneth Williams placed fourth at the Division 2 finals in 2018 and is coming off a 45-0 effort into a negative wind at Arcadia.  Silverado's Johnathan Battee, Yucaipa's Corbin Zucco, and Big Bear's Paul Domingue have all measured out beyond 44 feet.  Meanwhile, watch for ML King's Treyjon Anderson reached out to 44 feet last week.

BOYS HIGH JUMP

  • Meet Record: Nick Ross 6-11 (Vista Murrieta) 2009

Vista Murrieta sophomore Darius Hill comes in confident as his 6-7 clearance this past Thursday. This elevates him up to eight in California and third in the Southern Section.  Big Bear's Paul Domingue cleared 6-4 three weeks ago.  Meanwhile, Vista Murrieta's Ke'shawn Mattear has leaped up over the 6-3 bar along with Murrieta Mesa junior Reno Vasquez.  Finally, Rancho Cucamonga's and Baseline League champ, Miles Harris cleared 6-4 in qualifying for the 2018 Division 1 finals.

BOYS POLE VAULT

  • Meet Record: Kyle Beck 15-3 (Los Osos) 2013

Despite missing some major names, this event is still stacked and loaded.  Roosevelt's Jakob Ernst lines up as the top seed with a 15-1 clearance.  He is currently tied for fifth in the Southern Section.  But, he will have to hold off Beaumont's Brady Ho.  The defending Division 1 champion was off to a slow start in 2019 but vaulted over 15-0 this past Wednesday.  Roosevelt's Jacob Camarena and Vista Murrieta's Kendal Gibbs have both cleared 14-8 this season.  Meanwhile, Corona's Nicholas Gutierrez has improved up over 14-6, giving the Big VIII league four that have done so in 2019.  Nine of the top 16 in the Southern Section derive from the Inland Empire.

BOYS SHOT PUT

  • Meet Record: Joe Canavan 63-9 (Palm Desert) 2007

Norte Vista's Emmanuel Giron continues his climb up the lists after his 52-9.5 victory at last week's Riverside Raincross Tradition.  He is now 15th in the Southern Section.  Vista Murrieta's Alex Oyawale is coming in strong, with a three-foot personal best on Thursday of 52-3.  Oaks Hills' Jason Rodriguez gets into the ring as the top seed with a seasonal best of 50-9.75.  But, Vista Murrieta's Edward Ta'amilo is right there with him after his 50-4.75 effort at the Mt. Carmel Invite several weeks ago.  Finally, Twentynine Palms' Adam Mapuatuli is seeking that coveted 50-foot measurement for the first time.

BOYS DISCUS THROW

  • Meet Record: Seth Knowlton 197-6 (Great Oak) 2016

Vista Murrieta junior Edward Ta'amilo is coming off a 182-2 outbreak this past Thursday.  He is now sixth in California and third in the Southern Section.  His teammate, Alex Oyawale comes forward with a best of 157-7 while Oak Hills' Jason Rodriguez has been measured out beyond 154 feet.  The Norte Vista duo of Emmanuel Giron and Anthony Rodriguez are having solid 2019 campaigns.  Meanwhile, Murrieta Mesa freshman Cade Moran is forgoing the Frosh/Soph level and joins his elders with a 148-4 best.  He is currently the third-best freshman in California.
