2019 Dublin Distance Fiesta Meet Preview

Girls Distance Medley Relay
Meet Record - Santa Cruz - 2018 - 12:07.58

The final event of the day for the girls will be the lone relay that is contested at this meet. The favorite to win will be the St. Francis, Sacramento (photo courtesy of St. Francis, Sacramento) girls who may be saving their best runners to post a fast time here. They were one of the top NorCal cross country teams in cross country and will be looking to make a statement here. Monte Vista has done well in this event at this meet and will keep the SJS team in check. Foothill Technology and their hall of fame coach Ken Reeves will be making the trip up north and when a team travels that far for a meet, that usually means they are coming with a big goal in mind. A couple of other teams to watch will be Gregori and St. Joseph Notre Dame. Menlo will also be a very dangerous threat if the first three runners keep them in contention for their great closer, Charlotte Tomkinson.

Boys Distance Medley Relay

Meet Record - Davis - 2016 - 10:23.93

This event is always hard to pin down since it is contested so close to the final 3200 heats. Most of the top teams will have their talented runners in those heats and will need them to double back after a very hard effort in the 8 lap race. Looking at the entries for this event, I will have to say that the favorite will be Bellarmine (CCS photo above). They have always taken great pride in doing well in the relays and considering their depth, it is possible for them to save some of their best runners just for this race. Keeping them honest will be Mission San Jose which has had a very talented young group of runners who might be ready to make a major statement here. The other contending teams will be Heritage, Foothill Technology and Campolindo. There are 28 teams entered in the second and fastest heat so that should make for quite a race and some exciting handoffs at the end of the 1200 leg.
