The 5 Softest CA Boys State Records

High Jump

The California state meet has never been terribly kind to high jumpers.

The State Meet record is 7-3.25 by Glendale High's Lee Balkin in 1979 -- 40 years ago! That was quite a mark back then, the No. 2 performance all-time coming a year after Gail Olson went 7-4.25.

But the best performance by a Golden State jumper is 7-4.50, shared by San Francisco Balboa's Maurice Crumby in 1983 and Mt. Pleasant's Darius Carbin in 1916.

There are seven jumpers, led by Texas' Andra Manson, who cleared 7-7, and 10 better performances ahead of the two.
