CA Trio Golden At Idaho's Simplot Games

A trio of California athletes spent the weekend in Pocatello and brought home titles as Chinyere OkoroChris Hill and Jazlynne Shearer each won events at the Simplot Games indoor meet at Idaho State University.

Okoro, a senior at Amador Valley (NC), won the 60-meter dash, edging Gardena Serra's Jazmyne Frost in a race where they both were timed in 7.48. Coronado's Alysah Hickey was sixth in 7.72. A week ago, Frost won the 60-meter title at the CA Winter Championships -- an outdoor meet -- running 7.59 in the final.

Hill, a senior at Rancho Cucamonga (SS), won the boys 200-meter dash in 21.64. He had the second-fastest time in prelims, running 22.62. Hill also placed fifth in the 60-meters (6.92). At the CA Winter Championships, Hill won the 300 in 34.12 and was a narrow second to Kenan Christon in the 60

Shearer, a senior at Silver Creek (CC), won a 60-meter hurdles race where three of the top four were girls from California. Shearer clocked 8.42 to edge Calabasas (SS) sophomore Bella Witt (8.48). Taylor Shorter (Norco/SS) was fourth in 8.79. Last week, Witt ran 8.69 to win the CA Winter Championships title.

Shearer also placed second in the triple jump (39-05.75) and seventh in the long jump (18-04.75).

In the 200, Frost ran 24.61 for second, Kaiya Johnson (El Cerrito/NC) was fourth (25.00) and Shorter was sixth (25.49). Okoro, who ran 25.91 in prelims, was DQ'd in the final.

Warren Williams (Merrill West/SJ), fresh off his CA Winter Championships victory in the 60-meter hurdles, was third here in 8.20. Williams' 8.29 was the fastest time in prelims. Williams ran 8.24 in the Winter Championships final.

Hickey, the defending CIF-State Meet champion in the long jump, was second in a jump-off with Brooke Weimer of Boise after both jumped 18-10.25.
