T&F Preview: Ranking Top 200 Incoming Sophomores

Last June, in closing out the 2018 outdoor track season, we posted a series of articles that recognized the top performers in every grade level. As we now approach the 2019 track and field season, we want to bring those rankings forward as we focus on the Feb. 16 opening of the season.

This article looks at the Class of 2021 -- last year's freshmen, this year's sophomores. This class, especially on the girls side, excelled on the track last spring.

Jacqueline Duarte (Chino Hills/SS), Audrey Suarez (Mayfield/SS) and Mia Barnett (Village Christian/SS) went 3-5-6 in the 1600 meters at the State Final!

But that incredible trio wasn't alone in medaling last June at Clovis. As a reminder of just how strong the Frosh gals were last spring:

  • Paige Sommers (Westlake/SS) was third in the pole vault!
  • Faith Bender (Liberty/CS) was fifth in the discus throw!
  • Megan Ronan (St. Ignatius College Prep/CC) was fifth in the long jump!
  • Jade McDonald (Mater Dei/SS - now at Calabasas) was sixth in the triple jump!

Additionally, five other freshman girls -- plus Bender in the shot put! -- also reached the finals at the State Meet:
