Air quality concerns as a result of smoke from wildfires in Northern California forced the cancellation of two section championships but the rescheduled North Coast Section remains on for Tuesday at Hayward High School with a slightly modified race schedule.
The Oakland Section cancelled its championships, scheduled last week, and on Monday, the San Francisco Section cancelled the All-City Championships, which had previously been rescheduled twice. SFS and OAL are the smallest of CA's 10 sections.
The NCS, originally scheduled for last weekend, will be held Tuesday (Nov. 20) at Hayward High School.
The schedule has been adjusted "slightly in order to get done about 50 minutes earlier in the day. This is a final precaution since AQI (air quality index) readings the last 2 days have been higher in the afternoon than in the morning."

San Francisco Cancels
"Please be advised that the 2018 CIF San Francisco Section Cross Country finals have been cancelled. We can't run today due to poor air quality. We will advance a team and individual runners based on their qualifying marks.
"Thank you for your interest in this and other events during these past twelve days."
The All-City Finals, perennially dominated by Lowell, was initially scheduled for Nov. 14, then moved to Nov. 16 and again to Nov. 19 before it was determined that air quality would not be at healthy levels for competition.
Oakland Cancels
The Oakland Section, also originally scheduled for Nov. 14, and then moved to Nov. 17, officially cancelled its championship meet on Saturday. Qualifiers to Saturday's CIF-State Championships will be based on results from the season. Those qualifying teams and individuals are:

Team: Oakland Technical (Caroline Garrett, Maya Ades, Emily Mansell, Nell Schafer, Clair Garrett, Josie Goodson, Ayla Frost).
Boys
Team: Skyline (Jacob Hackett, William Boyd, Daniel Perry, Bryce Harrison, Emmett O'Brien, Hong Tan, Alvin Yu).
Individuals: William Webster (Technical), Ben Nicholas (Technical), Nathan Lee (Technical), Alejandro Leon (Oakland Charter), Emerson Velasquez (American Indian).
