Great Oak teams not the only storyline heading into Mt. SAC

Unfortunately, the fans will not get to see the matchup between the two best girls' squads in the state for that Girls Team Sweepstakes race.  Great Oak, which set the team course record here a year ago and is going for fifth overall title in a row, will toe the line while Claremont's best will prepare for the postseason and sit this one out.  Being in different divisions, that means we won't see these two compete against one another until after the California State Meet, with both being virtual locks for NXN spots.

But, Great Oak, led by Tori Gaitan and Fatima Cortes (Orlando Ramirez photo above) will take on La Costa Canyon's girls, led by Kristin Fahy (Clark Kranz photo below), the top team in the San Diego Section and among the top five in the state.  Vista Murrieta and Mira Costa (Div. I) along with Div. II's Canyon (Anaheim), Serrano and Capistrano Valley are five of the best in the Southern Section.  So, we will see six of our top 10 squads in the Southern Section match up in the same race this weekend!

Meanwhile, Walnut's Arriaga sisters will make their last appearance on the Mt. SAC course (aside from competing at the Footlocker Western Regionals in early December).   Poway's girls from SDS are one of the most improved in the state while Oakland Technical (OK), Davis Senior (SJ) and Homestead (CC) are making the trip from Northern California.
