The MileSplitCA Super 17 All-State Teams are subjective selections with strong consideration given to CIF-State Meet finals qualification (3200 excluded), top placing at the section finals level, season-long consistency at a high level, and versatility. Top marks within the class is a consideration but not a guarantee of making this list.
This class of boys is so deep that we broke it into a first team and a second team, plus honorable mention. How deep is this class? Not all State Meet medalists made the first team. That said, how an athlete finished the season was weighted heavily in most of the final decisions.
This class claimed 22 medals at the State finals, including three champions -- Liam Anderson (1600), Caleb Roberson (300 hurdles) and Daniel Viveros (shot put). It also had three athletes win two individual medals -- Anderson (1600, 3200), Kenan Christon (100, 200) and Cameron Reynolds (200, 400) (at right in the Louis Amestoy photo).
Note: Rankings are within the 2019 class unless specified as overall (regardless of class).
This is the sixth installment of a 10-part series leading up to the overall MileSplitCA All-State teams.
Updated 6/30, 6 pm: Kenan Christon was inadvertently deleted from the initial version of the Super 17 Junior Boys All-State team. He has been returned to his rightful place on what now is the Super 18 Junior Boys All-State team. We regret the omission but are happy to have Kenan back on the list!
