Elena Denner and Maddy Denner (Oak Ridge) - This seems only fair that the Denner twins are the co-athletes of the year for the Sac-Joaquin Section. They had another spectacular season but saved their best racing for the post-season. At the California state meet, Maddy Denner repeated as state champion in the 1600 with a best of 4:42.77. Her sister Elena finished in 4th place. In the 3200, Elena won her first state title with a best of 10:10.32 followed by her sister Maddy. With those 33 points, Oak Ridge finished in second place behind a strong Serra squad. At the New Balance National meet, Maddy and Elena finished in first and third with both girls recording personal bests. A fitting end to an outstanding season.
