California's top combo hurdler done with hurdles this season

After we reported last week that Claudia Lane's season has come to a premature end, we sadly report that Clayton Valley senior Aiden Jackman will not be competing in both hurdle races the rest of the season. This is significant since Jackman has recorded the fastest legal times in both hurdle races this season in California.

At the Stanford Invitational, Jackman raced to a solo effort winning performance in the rarely raced 400-meter hurdle with a then national leading 52.85.

A week later at the Arcadia Invitational, Jackman finished 2nd in the 110m hurdles with a personal best 13.98 (1.2) and 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles race with another PR of 37.47 (file photo below), a time that still ranks US #22. The two athletes that defeated Jackman were both from out of state, which put Jackman as the top hurdler in California.

Unfortunately, it appeared that Jackman may have injured himself during the high hurdle race at the Arcadia Invitational.

Last week, at the DAL trials for the 300-meter hurdles, Jackman reinjured his hamstring going over the first hurdle and was unable to complete the race which eliminated him from that event. This past Saturday, Jackman was a scratch in the 110 high hurdles, which officially puts him out of both hurdle races the rest of the CIF season.

Clayton Valley has been quite formidable this season aside from Jackman, and now has the leading 400-meter runner in the state in Cameron Reynolds at 47.09. Clayton Valley has two additional runners at sub-50 in the 1600 relay. There is a very remote chance that he may compete in the long relay if he can recover from this injury but chances are that his season is done.

Jackman did, in fact, qualify to the State Meet in the high hurdle race as a junior but was eliminated at the trials. After his times at Arcadia, Jackman was dreaming big but now his hurdle racing career will have to wait until next year in college.
