Hampton scorches the sprints at Inland Empire Championships

OTHER PERFORMANCES OF NOTE

Roosevelt junior Miranda Camargo, a softball player until recently, rolled through the girls 1,600 with a 5:06.77 PR. Saturday continued what has been a two-week breakout period for her since walking away from club softball roughly a month ago, coach Joe Robles said.

"Officially, it started at Arcadia," Robles wrote in a text.

There, Camargo ran 2:20 on a leg of the 4x8 team that won the seeded division; 5:10 on the 4x16 and 5:08 in the DMR. Camargo also ran cross country but divided her time with softball in the fall. She's 100% track now.

"It's been full of surprises since it's my first year doing track," Camargo told MileSplit's Jenna Morford after the 1600. "Before that, I've been playing softball since I was like 6 years old. I just quit a few weeks ago to focus on track. "

Sierra senior Mariah Allain won both of the sprints (right in Scott Padgett photo above), taking the 100 in a wind-legal 11.99 PR and the 200 in an all-conditions PR of 24.39 (2.7). Her sister Deja Allain was second in the 200 in 24.66 and the girls also ran on the 4x1 relay team that placed third (48.91) in an event won by Murrieta Mesa in 48.02 (CA #13).

Murrieta Mesa was impressive in the relays as a whole. The girls 4x1 team consisted of freshman Stevie Wu, junior Jordin Bella, senior Jada Edwards and junior Chioma Okonkwo.

The Rams boys 4x1 team (Frank Bellino photo below) of senior Jeremiah Queen, senior Matthew Okonkwo, senior Davonte Williams and senior Christian Shakir ran a CA#3 time of 41.58, beating current CA leader Rancho Verde (41.77) and always-fast Vista Murrieta (41.88).

At the end of the meet, it was Murrieta Mesa's 4x400 team putting on a show. The lineup of junior Jermarcus Tate, Shakir, Williams and Okonkwo ran 3:19.58 (CA #7).

"Shakir split 47.2 to take us from 2nd to a 10m lead," coach Aaron Ballou said in a text.
