Buchanan, Monache Bring Home Team Sweeps from Central Section Finals

Central Section Masters Division 1 Recap

Girls Division 1 Recap:

Buchanan's girls dominated as expected, with Meagen Lowe taking the win and Corie Smith in second. Clovis exceeded the expectations of our database, taking second to advance to the state meet. McFarland, predicted to finish second, came in third and still made it through to Woodward Park. Blayney Dolan (Clovis North) and Veronica Ortega (Madera South) led the individual qualifiers, finishing 4th and 8th respectively.

MileSplit Database Success:

  • Team Qualifiers: 2 for 3
  • Individual Winner: 0 for 1

Boys Division 1 Recap:

Our database really liked McFarland based on very fast times from the East Sierra League Championship, but the Cougars really struggled Saturday (calling into question the length of their league meet course) and they did not advance to the state meet. Instead, Buchanan won the boys' race to complete the sweep, with Clovis North performing very well to move up to second overall. Clovis finished right where we predicted, in third place to claim the final team spot at the state meet. Marcus Mota (Stockdale) took the crown and led the way for individual qualifiers, showing that he favored tougher 5K courses during the season to help hone his strength for the championship. Ismael Ramirez (Redwood) also had a top 5 finish to punch his ticket to the state meet.

MileSplit Database Success:

  • Team Qualifiers: 2 for 3 (4 for 6 overall)
  • Individual Winner: 0 for 1 (0 for 2 overall)
