CIF Northern Section Finals recap



Girls Division 3

Team champion and State qualifier Foothill (Palo Cedro) had six finishers in the top 14 of the combined three-division race led by sophomore Rize Oliveira (fifth overall in 19:36.90), junior Payton Osborne (sixth in 19:51.40), sophomore Grace Dudley (eighth in 19:58.10), sophomore Emma Flynn (12th in 20:08.00) and sophomore Claire Durbin (13th in 20:08.40). Dudley was the section individual runner-up last year.

Foothill posted an all-division best 44 points.

Chico junior Britta Bundy won the D3 title with the meet's third-fastest time (19:29.00) and is the division's top individual qualifier for State. Shasta senior Aislinn Matagulay was fourth overall (19:36.50) as the No. 2 qualifier. Also advancing are Shasta soph Lindie Larson (19:55.40) and Pleasant Valley frosh Kelsey Roach (20:00.00).

Girls Division 4

Yreka and University Prep advanced boys boys and girls teams to the No. 25 State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Sophomore Hana Hall and freshman Grace Gaddy went 1-2 overall leading University Prep, which had the No. 2 point total in the section behind Foothill.

Hall, who defended her section crown, ran away from the field to win the three-mile race in 18:19.70. Gaddy finished in 19:05.90. Senior Morgan Gregory was 11th overall (20:04.60) as the No. 3 runner for University Prep, which posted 67 points. 

Marron Bahen was 15th overall (20:14.50) and the top finisher for Yreka, which was sixth in the combined scoring. 

Mia Ashby of Sutter was 16th (20:18.48) and the division's top individual qualifier for State. She was seventh in the section final last year.

Other individuals advancing are Jaycie Sundstrom of Central Valley, Kaitlin Morgado of Las Plumas and West Valley teammates Jasmyne Aragon and Toni Kostelec.

Girls Division 5

Durham, ninth in the combined scoring, won the Division 5 competition to earn its ticket to Fresno. Junior Luca Pfahler was 42th overall (21:24.94) and the top finisher for Durham.

Small school qualifiers for State are Lauren Harper of Trinity (10th overall 20:00.42 as the division champion), Alicia Murillo of Hamilton City, Hope Dodgen of Big Valley, Marissa Bonivert of Mt. Shasta and Cassidy GIlmore of Etna.
