Alex Dunne Commits to Stanford

Footlocker finalist and San Clemente senior, Alex Dunne will be wearing cardinal red and white this fall as she heads to Stanford University.

Trying to choose the right college can add a great deal of stress to an already busy season, especially when you take a liking to all the colleges you visit.  "All the schools I was looking at (University of Washington, Duke, Georgetown and Stanford) possessed amazing and alluring qualities including outstanding athletic and academic programs," said Dunne who spoke highly of all her visits..... but Stanford won out.  "Something clicked while I was there and I thought, "I can really picture myself here" and when my visit ended I remember telling Claire (my host) I did not want to leave.  I just felt comfortable there."

Dunne also feels that being close to home will make the transition easier for her.  It will also allow her family to stay actively involved in her running career.  "I am so excited to have committed to Stanford!" said a very excited Dunne, "The atmosphere on campus and especially around the team is so positive and motivating.  A sense of greatness and ambition shines through the University and I cannot wait to be a part of it."

With her cross country season behind her and her college choice decided, Dunne can now focus on her upcoming track season.  Her impressive career to date has already seen some outstanding PR's.  Last track season Dunne posted a PR of 2:10 in the 800m, was the Arcadia Individual Champion in the mile with a time of 4:54.72 (4:53.01 1600m) and took 4th at the California State Meet in 10:25, 36/100 of a second behind 3rd place.

Other Career Highlights:

    •    Bronze Medal at the 2008 Mountain Running World Championships in Switzerland
    •    2nd at Mt. Sac with the 5th fastest time in the history of the course
    •    California Cross Country Division 1 Champion (ran with only one shoe on)
