Top 10 Moments from 2016 California Cross Country Season

10) Southern Section uses Riverside City course for SS divisional final location
When it comes to the history of Southern Section cross country, the most iconic and noteworthy course is Mt. SAC. Most of the all-time great SS runners made part of their legacies on THE course. The Mt. SAC invitational is THE best cross country invitational in the entire nation when you consider the sheer amount of races and competitors. Since 1981, every Southern Section divisional final has taken place at Mt. SAC. If you are curious, the 1980 SS divisional final took place at Saddleback Community College. With the onset of construction at the Mt. SAC location, the use of the course was up in the air which led to the SS to look at other options. Both divisional prelims and finals were held at Riverside City course. This was certainly quite a change for SS teams as they did not have to run the rugged Mt. SAC course two weeks in a row before the state finals. It will be interesting what course will be used in the future once the construction at the Mt. SAC campus is complete.
