Cool Breeze Invitational (Pasadena)
What a race to the finish! Three strong runners battled to the very end of the two-loop race, finishing within three seconds of each other. It was Ethan Comeaux (Redondo Union) that pulled out the win, clocking 15:16.4 to hold off teammate Benjamin Tait and Serrano's Jhavahn Houston and leading his team to the win. And that was the unseeded varsity race! In the seeded race, Colin Fitzgerald (Crescenta Valley) held off a strong effort from Edgard Villa (Vista Murrieta) to win in 14:55.9. Claremont took the team win in the Sundown Showdown seeded race, beating Desert VIsta (AZ) by 33 in a strong season-opening performance.
That wasn't even the best overall performance from Claremont, either. The Wolfpack women surged past Arcadia in the second half of their Sundown Showdown seeded race, winning 63-81. In an impressive display of depth, Claremont also won their JV, sophomore, and freshman races for a complete sweep of the Cool Breeze Invitational! Individually, Kelli Hines (Mission Viejo) showed that her great track season wasn't an anomaly as she claimed victory in 16:54.81, leading three other runners that broke 17: Elizabeth Chittenden (Mira Costa), Sara Leonard (Canyon Anaheim Hills), and Lauren Peurifoy (M.L. King). In the unseeded race, Lindsey McAllister (Marymount) took the win in 18:00.4, while Redondo Union earned its second win of the meet, 61-80 over Riverside Poly.
