USTFCCCA Announces California State Coaches Of The Year

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has released their choices for the California State Track and Field Coaches of the year. The California winners led their respective teams to the team titles at the recently concluded California State Track and Field meet at Buchanan HS.

Coley Candaele of Vista Murrieta won the award as he led his team to their 2nd consecutive state title. He was also instrumental in helping Michael Norman (above with coach Candaele receiving his Gatorade National Boys Athlete of the Year award) navigate his senior season as he also prepared for the USA Olympic Trials. Norman finished in 5th place in the 200 meters. He was also a double winner at the IAAF U20 Championship in Poland in the 200 meters and the 400 meter relay.

For the girls winners, Amrit Lal (above far right) coached Carson to their state team championship in school history. The team was led by junior Kaelin Roberts who won the 400 meters, finished 2nd in the 200 meters and ran a leg on both winning relay teams.

During the fall, Doug Soles, Great Oak won both cross country awards (boys and girls) for California and won the National Coach of the Year for the boys.
