Germantown Friends took full advantage of the delicious distance offerings and savored some good times. Max Kaulbach posted a 9:14.1 2-mile, which converts to a PA#1 3000 of 8:34.1. Terence Lee, Engineering & Science, moved in the top five in the state with a mile of 4:19.9. Germantown Friends teammates Isaac Ortiz (4:22.9) and Jake McKenzie (4:28.5), also had strong miles. Hidden in the results was the nice 4:51.4 mile by their coach, Rob Hewitt. Downingtown West's Austin Tobelmann went 2:00.4 in the 800. Four Germantown Friends' runners were under 2:09, Jake McKenzie in 2:02.5, Tom Waterman in 2:05.6, Eddie Einbender-Luks in 2:07.6 and Gus McKenzie in 2:08.1.

On Friday night at Lehigh University at the DVGTCA Meet of Champs, there were numerous PA#2 performances, including Council Rock South's Ije Iheoma running 25.07 to beat current PA#1 200m runner Shanae Bailey of Swenson. Conestoga's 12:30.64 DMR and Council Rock North's 9:25.33 were PA#2's, while Chester's 3:59.00 4x400 was PA#3. Ryann Krais leapt 18-06 to take over the top state spot in the long jump. Girls' High's Joelle Neilson went 37-06.25 in the triple jump for PA#2. And Conestoga's Whitney Winters ran 7.66 in the trials of the 60 dash for PA#2 (she won the finals, as well.)

In the sprint events Kevin Steinberg, Neshaminy (in PennTrackXC photo) was the champion of both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Kevin won the 60 with a time of 6.99 and won the 200 with a time of 22.41. Teammate Tim Malloy won the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.39. Engineering and Science's Austin Perron won the 400 dash with a time of 49.92.

In the distance events Zack Montijo, North Penn won a very close 800 race in a time of 1:56.38. Elliot Rhodes, Engineering and Science, was 2nd in 1:56.53 and Nick Crits, Wissahickon, was 3rd in 1:56.61. (800m finish photo by PennTrackXC) Terrence Lee, Engineering and Science, won a heated 3000 meter run over Mark Dennin, Boyertown, 8:47.93 to 8:50.01, kicking with 100 meters to go to post the PA#3 tiime. Also under 9 minutes was Lower Merion distance runner Ben Furcht, 8:58.06. Dan Wallace, Council Rock North, won the mile in a time of 4:31.21.

 

The relays produced some fast overall times and some fast splits. LaSalle won the DMR in a time of 10:31.32. Pat Donnelly ran 3:16.2 for the 1200 leg, Anthony Kent went 52.7 in the 400, Brian Ledder ran 2:01.4 for the 800, and Dan Lowry ran 4:20.8 for the 1600. Archbishop Ryan was 2nd in 10:34.96. Penncrest came in 3rd, 10:36.29 while Upper Dublin was 4th in 10:37.46. Central Bucks East was 5th in 10:37.91 with Josh Izewski running the 1600 anchor in 4:18.1. North Penn won the 3200 meter relay in 8:09.58. Brian Quintrell ran a leadoff split of 2:04.1, Brandon Rothenberger ran a split of 2:05.8, Steve Franks ran a split of 2:02.3, and Zach Montijo anchored in 1:57.2. Neshaminy won the 800 meter relay in a time of 1:32.15. Kevin Steinberg lead off in 22.3, Nick DeFeo split 22.7, Casey Cappello split 23.5, and Tim Mallay anchored in 23.0. Engineering and Science won the 1600 meter relay in a time of 3:26.46. Hyman 51.3 lead off, Rhodes 51.0 2nd, Ansley 51.8 3rd, Perron 52.0 Anchor.

In the field Douglas Moppert, Malvern Prep, won the long jump with a leap of 23-03.50. Jason Johnson, Cardinal O'Hara, won the triple jump with a mark of 47-00.50. Sean Wilkes, Bonner, won the shot with a put of 56-02.00. Derek Hynes, Central Bucks South, won the pole vault with a height of 14-06.00. Sean Gentry, North Penn, won the high jump with a height of 6-06.00.

Khaliff Featherstone ran a US #2 time of 48.29 with his 400 meter win. Chris Morales, Abington, was 4th in 49.99. Mike Vatti, Easton, was 5th in 50.09 and Norristown's EJ Hadrick was 7th in 50.48. Montoursville hurdler Michael Keenan went a US#8 7.39 in the 55 hurdles, taking 2nd. Jarret Gordon, Methacton, was 5th in the 55 dash with a time of 6.59. Frank Wainwright, Gratz, was 5th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 7.82. Milton Hershey's Aaron Dabney was 6th in 7.92. Chris Aldrich, Henderson, was 4th in the 2-mile with a time of 9:38.33.

Norristown ran a smoking fast 800 meter relay, finishing 3rd in 1:30.77. Norristown was also 4th in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:37.07. Nazareth Academy was 6th with a time of 3:28.76. Methacton finished 5th in the SMR with a time of 3:37.09. Abington was 5th in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 8:03.7 to lead all PA schools on the weekend. Holy Ghost Prep finished 8th in 8:07.6, Henderson finished 9th in 8:08.4, and Methacton was 10th in 8:21.9.

Tony Shirk, Phoenixville, continues to dominate the vault in PA, winning with a mark of 15-00. Methacton's Percell Berry was 3rd with a 14-00. Teammate Wesley Lavong won the shot with a put of 57-09.75.

Pepsi Girls

Henderson ran well in two relays, finishing 3rd in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:03.77 and finishing 4th in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 9:27.07. Archbishop Prendergast finished 4th in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:06.77 and St. Basil finished 7th in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 9:36.42. Norristown finished 4th in the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:46.15.

Abby Schaffer, Easton, continues to win, topping the Pepsi field with a height of 12-06.  Brooke Hamscher,  Whitehall, was 2nd, going over a PR 12-00. Kerry McDermott, Bethlehem Catholic, was 3rd with a height of 10-06, and Lauren Molchan, Laurel Highlands, was 5th with a height of 10-06. Gabriella Rinehart, Norristown, was 2nd in the shot with a put of 40-05. Courtney Bell, Norristown, was 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 36-04. Pottsgrove's Kitty Whitaker was 3rd in the high jump with a height of 5-02.

Heather Giovagnoli, Spring-Ford, won the 2-mile run with a time of 11:06.51. Tenesia Simpson, Easton, was 3rd in the 55 dash with a time of 7.18. Devan Coon, Schuylkill, was 5th in 7.37 and Grace Agyepong was 6th in 7.39. Devan also ran the 400 dash, finishing 10th in 1:01.15. Shakeya Ladson-Signleton, Norristown, was 11th in 1:01.58.

2/16 TSTCA Indoor Championships

The race of the day belonged to T.J. Hobart, Baldwin, who won the 800 meter run with a PA #3 time of 1:56.56. The 3000 meter run was also an exciting race with 4 runners achieving sub-8:55 times. Miles Becker, Mt. Lebanon, won with a time of 8:49.45. David Adley, Baldwin, was 2nd in 8:50.55, Ryan Beabout (WV), was 3rd in 8:53.79, and Justin Taylor, North Allegheny, was 4th in 8:54.81. Dan Kwiatkowski, McDowell, won the shot put with a throw of 61-07.75. Seneca Valley won the DMR with a time of 10:50.14.

In the sprints Tristan Stagger, Central Catholic, won the 200 dash with a time of 23.16. Khiry Watts, Avon, won the 55 dash in 6.48 and Dave Kalatshoff, Plum, won the 55 hurdles in 7.86. McDowell's Johnny Dagun won the 400 dash in 51.82.

In the field Jeravin Matthews, Canon McMillan, won the long jump with a leap of 22-06.75. Mike Steffenino, Norwin, won the pole vault with a mark of 15-00. Dan Sandrowicz, Indiana Area, won the triple jump with a leap of 44-05. Conor Barrett, Seneca Valley, won the high jump with a height of 6-06.

Laura Kosiorek, McDowell, ran a PA #3 time of 8.52 in the 55 hurdles. Cambrya Jones, Woodland Hills, ran a PA #2 time of 7.23 in the 55 meter dash. Natalie Bower, Greater Latrobe, pulled off the distance double, winning the mile in 5:14.34 and the 3000 in 10:35.09. Seneca Valley won the DMR in a time of 12:47.56. Kim Kanala, Hempfield, put the shot 42-01.

In other track action Amanda Malecky, Butler, won the 800 run in 2:22.05 and Jordan Lee, Penn Hills, won the 400 dash in 61.70.

In other field action Laura Kosiorek added to her hurdle win with a win in the triple jump, leaping 36-01. Gisele Adanlete, Penn Hills, won the long jump with a mark of 16-08. Calsie Boyd, Richland, won the high jump with a leap of 5-02. In relay action Schenley won the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:50.13. Norwin took the win in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:11.07.

2/16 USATF Cross Country Nationals

RESULTS POSTED

Several PA athletes competed in the USATF Cross Country Championships over the weekend. James Carney finished 6th overall with a time of 35:56. He finished behind some of the most talented runners in the nation. The winner was Dathan Ritzenhein, 35:03, 2nd was Jorge Torres, 35:29, 3rd was Josh Rohatinsky, 35:41, 4th was Edward Moran, 35:43, and 5th was Ryan Hall, 35:50. Ryan Sheehan finished 22nd overall with a time of 37:02. Daniel Mazzocco finished 36th overall with a time of 37:54. In the women's race Maureen McCandless finished 11th overall with a time of 27:27. The winner was Shalane Flanagan, who won with a time of 25:26.

2/17 1st State Indoor Track Classic

Ayanna Fields, a sophomore from the Academy of Notre Dame won the 800m Sunday in the 1st State Indoor Track Classic held at the University of Delaware with a time of 2:27.58.
