Fahey finishes 27th at Foot Locker Nationals

Fahey SAN DIEGO, CA -- Beth Fahey of Forest Park finished her strong senior cross country season with an admirable 27th place finish at the Foot Locker Nationals race at Balboa Park in San Diego with a time of 18:39. Fahey was the fifth finisher for the South region after being the final national qualifying individual at Foot Locker South with a eight place finish. Fahey was only one of three Virginia girls who have qualified for Foot Locker Nationals competition in the past five years (Erin Swain in 1999 and Cara Kiernan in 2002). The South Region girls finished last in the team scoring with 85 points for fourth place. Junior Katelyn Kaltenbach from Smoky Hill High School in Colorado, won the girls' race in a time of 17:24. Defending race champion Zoe Nelson finished eighth overall in the race with a 17:49 clocking.

In the boys' race, Matthew Withrow from VJ Andrew High School in Illinois continued the Midwest Region's dominance at Foot Locker with race and team champions as his winning time of 14:55 helped lead the region to the team title as well (36 points). The South Region boys finished last as well with 85 points as no Virginians on the boys' side qualified for nationals competition. It was the first time since 1998 Virginia was not represented in the boys' race at Foot Locker Nationals.
