In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis - I'm Baaack!

Guess who's back? It's me Kendall Ellis returning for some post season blogging. Since the state meet a couple big things have happened - senior breakfast, my last track banquet, and biggest of all graduation.

S/O to the class of 2014 and to all those who graduated! Graduation was exciting and the final reassuring event that high school is really over. Time for bigger and better things. It's great to leave a mark in high school and have your name known, but to me it's what comes after. I'm not trying to be known solely as a high school athlete who fizzles out in college. My running career has really just begun. High school was the foundation that set me up for college and it's almost time to fight on Trojans.

Now that the high school track season is "officially" over (does the season ever really end??) and I'm done with school, I have a lot of free time. Time to focus on track and myself. I'm still working out every day, but it's a lot more individualized attention. I love it because now I can really attack the smallest problems that really do have an impact on my time. 52 is not the goal by the end of the summer, I'm going for 51 and aiming for better. That 50.69 Sanya Richards ran the summer of her senior year is very appealing to me.

Coming up this weekend I have the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I've heard about this meet but this will be my first time going. The competition level should be high, just like the altitude. As a Florida girl I'm not sure how to feel about that, but all I can do is turn up and turn left. This meet is a chance to experiment and test out some new techniques before New Balance Nationals and World Juniors. I'm excited to meet people from all over and finally put face to Twitter name! New Mexico is about having fun, getting the experience, and getting prepared  for what's to come later in the summer.

I hope you guys had a happy National Running Day June 4! Let me know what meets you all are participating in over the summer and what you're most looking forward to. Best of luck in your training and upcoming meets and as usual don't forget to go for the gold. Why? Because victory is best served golden
