In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis - Texas Turn Up, Florida Fun

Hey y'all! Kendii back for my weekly blog. Don't y'all just love track season? It's starting to reach that point when I'm really falling in love with the sport.
Last weekend a few members of the STA track team got the opportunity to compete at the Texas relays. Records were meant to be broken right? That's exactly what the Lady Raiders did in Texas.

I am so proud and blessed to be on a team with such talented girls. I ended up not having to run the 4x8, but I was apart of the 4x2 and 4x4 relays. Krystal Sparling, Diamond Spaudling, Khalifa St. Fort and myself are now national record holders and ran the fastest 4x2 time ever ran in high school history. The 4x4 made up of Narinah Jean-Baptiste, Krystal Sparling, Diamond Spaulding, and myself maintained our US #1 spot and broke the meet record. We were able to represent for FL and made sure people remember who STA is. Diamond said it best, "Saint Thomas is here and Saint Thomas is still coming". There's more to expect this weekend on our home turf at the Florida relays.

Florida Relays should be fun. We get to show out for our home state and watch collegiate athletes perform, the same athletes we ran with only a few years ago. As for myself, this will be one of the first times my future coaches at USC, Coach Caryl and Coach Watts, will get to see me compete in person. I'm excited to see my soon to be teammates as well as getting the chance to better the times from last week.

Sometimes I have to stop and think what an opportunity it is to have the girls I have on my team. It's not a threat to have such talent on the team, it's a chance to train with the best every day. The same girl you'll see on the line at states is the same girl lining up with you at practice. My teammates better me as an athlete and competitor every single day. At the end of the day we're all trying to do better than we did the week before. It's not hard being part of a relay or team like STA when you have such a great group of girls surrounding you.

Check out the results from texas relays last week and be on the lookout for Florida relays results. Good luck in your upcoming meets and training and don't forget to go for the gold. Why? Because victory is best served gold.
