Wagner, headed to Princeton, finished in 10:29.45 (5:04 unofficial last mile; 1:07 last lap) to break the 2016 mark of 10:33.71 set by Kristen Leung (Lowell) to win her second sombrero in as many years. Wagner set the meet's 1600m record (4:55.35) in winning as a junior.
Sombreros are awarded to fast-heat race winners as one of the unique traditions of this 11-year-old distance-only event.
