Now nearly through April with league championships and CIFs just a turn of the calendar away, we wanted to use the MileSplit database to rank the deepest teams in California using cross country-style scoring.
On the following pages, you will find reports listing the top three for each event on the track, boys and girls. Click the "Full Report" link to go much, much deeper into each of the rankings.
While the massive 600-school Southern Section has the most representation among the top three across each of the eight events, 11 schools representing an additional five (of CA's 10) sections also made the top three.
There are only two No. 1 (1-point) athletes among the top three teams across all categories and only one of them is on an event-winning team. We'll give you a couple of hints. 1. They are both girls. 2. The athlete on the event-winning team is not a defending CIF-State champion.
Who has the deepest teams in the sprints? You may be surprised.
Who has the deepest teams in the distances? For the 800, you may be surprised. For the 16 & 32, not so much.
And in the hurdles? ... We invite you to click "next" to explore for yourself.
