Spartan women win Cougar Invite while men finish fifth

The Aurora University Spartan women's track and field team won the Concordia University Chicago Cougar Invitational while their male counterparts finished fifth.

The AU women won the Cougar Invitational with 133 points as the Spartans had 13 top four finishes in the meet.

Leading the way for the women was the 4x400 meter relay team of Loretta Johnson, Ariana Espino, Caitlin Monigold and Brittany Paller who won the relay with a time of 4:29.75. Ainsley Richards finished second in the long jump with a jump of 5.05 meters, Heidi Gantz finished second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:56.13, Lauren Miller finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 10.09 meters and Priscilla Thermidor finished second in the discus with a throw of 35.75 meters.

Kaylee Swearingen finished third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.03 and third in the pole vault with a vault of 2.58 meters, Rachelle Bentsen finished third in the high jump with a jump of 1.48 meters, while Johnson also finished fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.16 and fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.02, Erin Blackburn finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.30 and fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.05 and
Samantha Owens finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.78 meters.

The Spartan men finished tied for fifth with 63 points led by senior Eric Capshaw who won two events. He won the shot put with a throw of 14.46 meters and the discus with a throw of 40.48 meters and also finished third in the javelin with a throw of 50.04 meters.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Kyle Kayzar, Matt Snyder, Roberto Gonzalez and Alex Hoyle finished second with a time of 3:32.56. Jesus Gonzalez finished third in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.52 meters, Bo Price finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 12.36 meters and the 4x100 meter relay team of Michael Woodard, Chris Moss, Snyder and Hoyle finished fourth with a time of 44.80.

After another nice showing at Concordia, the next action for the Spartan men's and women's track and field team comes on Friday, April 27 when they travel to the Benedictine University Twilight meet. Meet time is set for 3 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
