Spring Valley junior Kate Niehaus placed 33rd overall at the Footlocker
Championships Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego. The state meet record
holder ran a 5k time of 19:17 in her third Footlocker Championships.

\"Kate did not run as well as we had hoped. She put 100% into the race mentally but her body was not willing to follow. The first 1000 meters she was in the top 10. After that she started to feel bad. At races of this level, having a little bit of an off day can look really bad. We will try to figure out what went wrong and make the necessary adjustments.\"
In 2003 Niehaus crossed the line first for South Carolina in 17th spot with a time of 18:11.
The South team finished fourth in the team standings with the Midwest capturing the team title.
