BEAUMONT -- Riverside JW North sophomore Makayla Browne and San Bernardino Cajon senior Adam Lunt

were the varsity race winners at the 3rd Beaumont Invitational on Saturday.

Browne, covered the 3-mile course in 17:11.3 for her second victory at this meet in as many years. She bettered her year-over-year time by 8.7 seconds, the fastest in the three-year history of the meet.

Browne finished well ahead of runner-up Aeriel Madrigal, a senior at Beaumont, who crossed in 18:00.7. The sophomore duo from Palm Desert Xavier Prep of Molly May (18:11.9) and Savana May (18:48.5) were next. Browne's teammate, senior Maria Rojas, was sixth in 19:02.1. Molly May was fifth here as a freshman in 18:51.00.

Lunt finished in 15:08.1. He was fourth as a sophomore in 15:28.40 but dropped to 20th last year (16:31.70).

Where Lunt was the individual story on the boys side, Beaumont was the story on the team side. The Cougars placed four in the top nine led by senior Elvis Rojas, who was second in 15:15.1. Behind Rojas -- but not too far behind -- was sophomore Dustin Berger  (fourth, 15:41.5), senior Rogelio Salcido (fifth, 15:47.8), and junior Logan Hernandez (ninth, 16:04.3).
